I stayed in Marina Del Rey recently, and went walking along Mother's Beach. There was this couple lying in the sand, wrapped around each other. The impression I took away with me changed as my angle changed. This is one of the first shots I took, which included the kids playing in the water in the background:
I did mask out the couple and the fellow to the left, to make them stand out against the beach and the background. While I'm sort of happy with this, it didn't really do what I wanted. I wanted the viewer's eye to be draw to the couple, in a bold way, and then to discover the fellow off to the side.
Here's my next shot:
This one doesn't introduce the discovery of another person/element, but it does draw the eye to the couple. I could see this as an engagement photo. I like the closeness of the couple, both physically and emotionally, that is revealed in this shot. I also like the texture of the sand, and the barrels providing contrast.
