Comparing again

As opposed to the two pictures of the couple, here are a couple of images that show the same scene using two different lenses. The first was shot with my Canon 24-105mm IS L series lens wide open at 24mm.

Mother's Beach boat launch ramp, Marina Del Rey, California

I really like this shot. I like the high contrast, the shadows, the way that the ramp draws the eye toward the skyline. I was happy with this one, until...

Mother's Beach boat launch ramp, wide angle ...I saw this one. It's the same scene from pretty much the same spot. The difference is that this one was taken with my Sigma 10-24mm ultra wide angle lens. The difference is significant. It loses the impact of the ramp dominating the center of the photo. That might be a good thing. I like the wider view of the skyline, while still achieving the effect of drawing the eye up the center of the shot.

Finally (or maybe not), here's a third view...

Mother's Beach boat launch ramp, Marina Del Rey, California ...also using the Sigma, but from inside the opening of the ramp. It creates a very different feeling for me, and the view is very different as well, even though the point from which I shot differs only by a few feet.
