A few weeks ago graduating high school senior Kendrick Knight came to the studio. I'd photographed him in several shows at MacTheatre (the Theatre at McCallum High School Fine Arts Academy). I talked about Meg Willimont in another post. Meg is a triple threat: actor, singer, dancer. Kendrick is a quadruple threat: add director. He's the youngest ever to direct "Spring Awakening", and to rave reviews. Just counting the shows I photographed, he was in "Titanic" and "Sondheim on Sondheim" as well as doing projection design for "Titanic".
You can learn more about Kendrick at his website.
When working with high school seniors, I like to have conversations. I like to learn about them, their passions, what got them to doing what they do. With an actor, I generally get more expressiveness, plus we get to create some characters or channel past characters. In Kendrick's case, we did some of each of those. Here's a treat from one of our conversations.
